Watch this film starring Gael Garcia Bernal as he retraces an immigrant's final journey from Central America to the U.S.
"Who is Dayani Cristal?", is a film by Gael García Bernal and Marc Silver that premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and won the Sundance Cinematography award.
The movie's plot is as simple and as difficult as they come, "Deep in the sun-blistered Sonora desert beneath a Cicada tree, Arizona border police disovered a decomposing male body. Lifting a tattered t-shirt, they expose a tattoo that reads 'Dayani Cristal'. Who is this person? What brought him here? How did he die? And Who--or What--is Dayani Cristal?"
Filmmakers Marc Silva and Mexican actor and activist Gael Garcia Bernal retrace this man's steps along the migrant trail in Central America in an effort to understand what it must have felt like to make this final journey.
The film exposes first-hand the dangers migrants face and learns of their motivations, hopes and fears.
The film has been shown in select theatres across the country over the past year and will make it's TV debut this weekend when it will play in it's entirety on Univision on Saturday, September 6 at 6 PM EST. Check your cable network for local channel listings.
